Project Structure
Project structure encompasses the systematic arrangement and organization of research components, enabling a clear and logical framework for conducting and presenting a study
01.
Methods of production and Efficient transportation of
e-MeOH and e-LNG as alternative fuels
Production & Transportation
Efforts are being made globally to implement new strategies and alternative fuels to meet this goal in various sectors, starting from production of energy, utilizing production byproducts, safe storage, transportation and usage of the produced energy.
The combination of energy storage with the production of alternative fuels gives added value to the derived products, which can then be used more efficiently towards green energy transition.
GReFuTra project will investigate methods of production of e-MeOH and e-LNG reutilizing and capturing produced CO2 from power plants, along with methods of producing H2 aiming towards adequate quantities of SNG, for use mainly in the Transportation Sector.
Following phase is the exploration of methods of processing and safe and efficient distribution of SNG to end users.
02.
Utilization of e-MeOH and e-LNG in Transportation and Shipping
e-fuels in transport
Exploring the most efficient ways of using e-fuels involves multiple factors such as:
- Analysis of the supply chain
- Analysis of ship & aviation engines
- Exploring methods of using e-fuels with minimum environmental impact.
03.
Modeling & Optimization of the Supply Chain –
Implementation Method
Modeling
focusing on two distinct areas of interest:
- Various types of fuels and their production methods and
- Challenges and effectiveness of these fuels in Transport
The final stage entails simulating methods of:
- H2 production
- CO2 capture
- Methane CH4 production and
- Production of other fuels
The goal, beyond the macroscopic level, is an attempt to upgrade the physical models and also to optimize the components of these processes.
A typical example is the development of methanol based fuel cells through this project.
The second focus point is exploring the implementation of e-fuels in Transport.
Specifically:
- In various types of aircraft engines and the environmental impact of energy consumption
- Analysis of maritime transportation risk
- In ground transportation such as microscopically in the Attica Basin or other transportation systems
